Jersey Apprenticeship Scheme
Register with the Jersey Apprenticeship Scheme
The Jersey Apprenticeship Scheme is currently under review.
We are accepting new apprentices onto the current Scheme's terms and conditions up to 30 June 2012 to allow transition arrangements to the revised Scheme to be implemented after that date.
A consultation process will shortly be undertaken on the current requirements of both employers and apprentices. If you would like to be informed when this will take place, please contact us.
The information below applies to the current Scheme, which is under review.
About the scheme
The Jersey Apprenticeship Scheme gives financial support to your employer to provide on and off-the-job training, enabling you to gain qualifications whilst in full-time employment.
The scheme supports apprenticeships in the following trades:
• carpentry or joinery
• electrical engineering
• food preparation
• hairdressing
• mechanical engineering, welding and fabrication
• motor vehicle engineering
• painting and decorating
• plumbing and heating
• trowel trades
The majority of courses are run by Highlands College. For information about the course structure, visit its website.

During your apprenticeship you will attend a day-release course. You will also be obliged to fill in a logbook for the duration of your apprenticeship, providing a record of your learning that can be used as a reference in the future. You will be asked to hand in your logbook 4 times a year for assessment.
Eligibility
There are two criterion you must meet to be accepted onto the scheme:
- you must fulfil the 5 year residency requirement
- you must meet the qualification requirements or have at least 1 year’s relevant work experience.
N.B. Individuals who have completed an apprenticeship in one craft area will not be eligible for financial support to undertake a further apprenticeship in another trade.
