Jersey, an island community with 800 years of independence, enjoys a reputation for punching well above its weight in the world, based upon the spirit, skills and commitment of its people. In recent years our economic success has helped us fund excellent public services and achieve a standard of living amongst the highest in the developed world.

Jersey provides a competitive near-shore proposition to access most European markets, with the advantage of operating in the same time zone and with a similar regulatory environment and business culture to the UK. Jersey‘s strongly pro-business climate and a government committed to developing a knowledge-based economy encourages a climate of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Jersey is part of the British Isles but not part of the United Kingdom, nor a member of the European Union. As a result of loyalty to the English Crown the island has been granted certain rights and privileges resulting in the island becoming self-governing. Jersey's parliament - the States - is one of the world's oldest legislatures and provides the island’s economy with legislation ensuring the stability and international competitiveness allowing Jersey to attract global corporate & personal investment.

Jersey – The International Finance Centre

Jersey has established itself as an international finance centre with approximately 50 international banks, and a plethora of sophisticated financial service companies all utilising a highly skilled work force. This industry has been attracted to Jersey by its stable government, high standards of financial regulation, geographical closeness to the UK and Continental Europe and favourable tax regime.

For more than 40 years, Jersey has been at the forefront of international financial services developments, clearly establishing itself as a leading international finance centre. The benefit of Jersey having its own Parliament, with independent responsibility for its domestic and fiscal affairs, has led to its evolution as one of the world's premier financial services jurisdictions.

The island offers political and economic stability, a flexible, independently endorsed regulatory framework, a tax neutral environment, a mature and respected legal system and, backed by a 40 year track record of product and service innovation, a skilled and responsive workforce. These ingredients continue to be the basis for its global appeal as a jurisdiction of choice for international investors

Jersey also has approximately 200 regulated trust and company administrators; over 100 investment managers, stockbrokers, advisers, custodians and fund administrators; a significant presence by all ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms as well as many of the medium-sized international firms; and a range of highly regarded offshore law firms with close links to major international firms.

In addition to the finance companies themselves, Jersey possesses a robust, sophisticated support infrastructure capable of assisting prospective inward investors from the majority of knowledge based sectors. A comprehensive digital communications infrastructure provides globally competitive access and security, providing companies the ability to compete internationally on a 24/7 basis.

Over 12,000 people are currently employed within Jersey's financial services sector. Over the past four decades the island has developed a breadth and depth in its range of services that many other competing jurisdictions find difficult to match.

An Educated and skilled workforce

Jersey’s highly educated English-speaking workforce provides a source of employment talent for potential knowledge-based companies operating across most industry sectors.
